S3DB - Simple and Sloppy Semantic Database

S3DB - About
S3DB is a universal LIMS (Laboratory Information Management System), which can be widely used in a variety of testing and research environments without requiring a preset database schema. Instead, the data structure is user-defined and can be edited without compromising previously submitted data.
Publication: Nature Biotechnology (2006) 24(9):1070-1071

S3DB - Team
The S3DB team is a working group within the Integrative Biology Lab (IBL) which is part of the Department of Bioinformatics and Computational Biology, Division of Quantitative Science of the University of Texas MDAnderson Cancer Center.

Team Members
Dr. Jonas S Almeida (CV)
Professor of Bioinformatics at the University of Texas MDAnderson Cancer Center

Helena F Deus (CV)
Exchange Graduate Student at University of Texas MDAnderson Cancer Center (Houston USA)
Bioinformatics graduate program of ITQB/UNL (Oeiras, Portugal)

S3DB - Funding
This prototype has benefited from contributions funded from various sources such as the NHLBI Proteomics Initiative from the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute, National Institutes of Health, under contract no. N01-HV-28181, and the PREVIS project (Pneumococcal Resistance Epidemicity and Virulence, An International Study), contract number LSHM-CT-2003-503413 from the European Community. However, the S3DB initiative as such does not benefit from dedicated funding and its current application has extended beyond the original motivation to assist specific research initiatives with web-based data management.
